VECCHIO RISTORO
Thirty minutes down the road in the town of Aosta, you’ll find Ristorante Vecchio Ristoro. Owners Paolo and Filippo managed to get their first Michelin star a year and a half ago and it is truly deserved. I have followed them for years and had an amazing experience when I visited them over Christmas.
CAFFE DELLA POSTA
The very best address for an aperitivo! Located in downtown Courmayeur, the best-ever Spritz is served here. They have a beautiful and cosy interior, with a wonderful chimney to warm up to.
L’ARMADILLO
L’Armadillo is a great option for a cosy dinner. The owner Luciano is a wine connaisseur and always pushes boundaries with all kinds of liquors. A good address for a relaxed night full of wine!
LA GROLLA
When on the slopes, La Grolla is one of my favourite restaurants, especially if the weather is beautiful. They have an amazing terrace and serve great food. My favourite dish is the Porcini Fritti: fried Porcini mushrooms. Such a delicacy after a morning on the slopes!
RISTORANTE CHIECCO
Another one of my favourites. Their wine list is just super. The restaurant is small but owners Anna and Paolo are a handful. Whenever I go there I start with their amazing bruschetta - they are unique. Then, I have a Tomahawk steak with a nice bottle of wine out of their amazing cave!
CHALET PLAN GORRET
Another one of my favourites. It might seem impossible to get great fresh seafood up this mountain, but this restaurant, specialised in Sardinian cuisine, manages to do it. They also have a fantastic selection of wines. A very popular place among the Milanese crowd, who love to see and be seen here, so make sure you reserve in advance!
What to do
VAL FERRET CROSS COUNTRY
When you want to do something other than your usual skiing, I love an early Cross Country ski across the Val Ferret before everyone wakes up. The beauty of the valley at that time of the day is unbeatable. And it is only a few minutes from the hotel Auberge de La Maison.
HIKING
I also enjoy hiking and one of my favourite trails is up to the La Grolla restaurant in the slopes. There is also a chalet in the middle of nowhere which is available for rent. I can personally recommend staying there if you are want to wake up on the slopes and end your day on the mountain. The chalet even includes a snow bike to go up and down the mountain!
